Hello all!

I wanted to make sure to add some information about where I am going and what I will be doing. I will be going to Manzini/Nsoko, eSwatini (formerly known as Swaziland) and Jeffrey’s Bay, South Africa. In eSwatini my team and I (squad) will be focusing on children’s ministry, sports ministryand community developmentIn South Africa my squad and I will be focusing on community outreach and discipleship!

eSwatini is a small country neighboring South Africa and Mozambique. They have the highest HIV/AIDS rate in the world and it is considered a pandemic, leaving 12% of the population – without parents (orphans). Another 40% of the population live on $1.25 per day. We believe God has a redemptive plan for them and that the key to the nations future is in its children. That’s why the children’s ministry is so important. We will be  educating them in leadership programs, working on agricultural projects and providing the basic necessities like food, clean water, and shelter. This is how we plan to raise the next generation of Swazi leaders! It won’t be easy but I know God will be with us each step of the way!

A typical day in eSwatini could look like:

In the morning, I might eat breakfast with my team. Then walk or take a short ride to one of the 40 care points serving families throughout eSwatini. My team will assist with children’s ministry and education programs. I will also help with the food distribution projects. In the afternoon, I might help with one of our agricultural projects. As the sun sets, my team and I will prepare supper together and have time to worship and have fun as a team.

South Africa is known for soccer, safaris, beautiful scenery, and coast lines. It is the southern most country in Africa. The country is among the most diverse on the continent, with people from many ethnic groups and nationalities living in the same communities. Following the country’s history with apartheid the nation is still in the process of healing and reconciliation. Though one of the most prosperous countries in Africa, millions of people live in poverty. I will be partnering with a school in Jeffrey’s Bay and will serve in after school programs helping students grow in there reading as well as art and music. I will also be busy meeting and discipling people from all around the world in coffee shops and while walking the beach during the busy tourist season!

A typical day in South Africa could look like:

In the morning I may help with some practical projects on the GLA campus so it will be ready for when students return from their holiday. In the afternoons, I may be part of an after school program called Beats and Books, where I will help students improve their reading skills and explore various types of music and art. During the afternoon I might be trying to disciple to others around the globe. The beach is nearby, so during my downtime I might enjoy the ocean and even try surfing or other opportunities like climbing a mountain or bungee jumping!

I can’t wait to truly touch some of their hearts while I am there as well as let them touch mine. My hope is that these experiences last a lifetime and train me to become a missionary for life. I am ready to pursue this calling of mine!

  1. This trip looks so worthwhile. Any time we can help the children of our world, I think that is one of the most important things we can do. Ben, I know you will be such an asset to this program. Everyone you meet will benefit from your energy and kindness. Be smart, stay safe, and enjoy all that you will gain from this experience. Take care.
